Most people searching for a battery energy storage system in Pakistan cannot find a price, because most companies will not publish one above home-battery size. This page does. It starts from the price we quote today, shows exactly where that money goes, and carries it up to 1 MW, which is the largest system the 2026 net billing rules allow.

BESS price in Pakistan: the short answer

A complete 50 kW hybrid solar system with 100 kWh of lithium battery backup costs approx Rs 200 per watt installed, which is approx Rs 1 crore. That is our current price for the whole hybrid solar system: panels, hybrid inverter, battery bank, structure, protection, installation and the net billing application.

Per watt, the price falls as the system grows, because panels, inverters and installation get cheaper at scale while batteries only get a little cheaper. A 1 MW system with the same proportion of storage comes out at roughly Rs 152 to 166 per watt.

What the Rs 1 crore includes

The price is for the complete system, installed and working, not for a battery on its own:

  • 50 kW of solar panels and the mounting structure
  • The hybrid inverter or power conversion system
  • A 100 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) battery bank with its battery management system
  • Protection, cabling and switchgear
  • Installation, commissioning and the net billing application

A BESS is priced as a commercial and industrial system in its own right. Its rate is not built up from home battery prices, so the price of a 16 kWh residential battery tells you nothing about what a BESS costs, in either direction. Within a BESS, the size of the storage is the biggest single driver of price, which is why two quotations for “a 100 kW system with battery” can be crores apart.

Battery energy storage system prices from 50 kW to 1 MW

Every row below keeps the same proportion as our 50 kW price: 2 kWh of storage for every kW of solar, which gives about two hours of full-power backup. The 50 kW figure is our quoted price. The larger sizes are our estimates built from it, using the scale effects described in the next section, and a real quotation depends on your site.

Solar Battery Approx price installed Approx per watt
50 kW 100 kWh Rs 1 crore Rs 200
100 kW 200 kWh Rs 1.85 to 2.0 crore Rs 185 to 200
250 kW 500 kWh Rs 4.3 to 4.7 crore Rs 172 to 188
500 kW 1 MWh Rs 8.1 to 8.9 crore Rs 162 to 178
1 MW 2 MWh Rs 15.2 to 16.6 crore Rs 152 to 166

All prices are approx and exclude DISCO and NEPRA charges, which we set out separately before you commit.

Why the price per watt falls as the system grows

  • Panels barely change. They are a global commodity priced in dollars, so a large order earns a small discount, not a large one.
  • Inverters change a lot. Up to roughly 50 kW you use hybrid inverters. At commercial scale the design moves to a separate power conversion system for the battery and string inverters for the solar, and both cost far less per watt.
  • Installation and protection change a lot. Mobilising a crew, designing the protection scheme and running the cabling cost nearly as much for a small system as a large one, so the cost per watt drops as size rises.
  • Batteries change only a little. Containerised lithium at MWh scale is cheaper per kWh than rack modules, but not dramatically. Because storage is such a large part of a BESS, this caps how far the total price per watt can fall.

Storage size moves the price more than anything else

The table assumes two hours of storage. Change that and the price changes sharply. For a 100 kW system:

Battery Backup at full power Approx price installed
100 kWh about 1 hour Rs 1.5 crore
200 kWh about 2 hours Rs 1.9 crore
400 kWh about 4 hours Rs 2.75 crore

So before comparing any two quotations, check that they are quoting the same number of kWh. The cheapest way to cut a BESS budget is rarely a cheaper brand. It is sizing the battery to the hours you actually need to cover, which for most factories and offices is the load-shedding window and the evening peak, not the whole night.

Why 1 MW is the limit for a BESS under net billing

Under NEPRA’s Prosumer Regulations 2026, a distributed generation facility is defined as one up to 1 MW. Beyond that you are no longer in the net billing framework at all, so for most commercial and industrial buyers 1 MW is the practical ceiling. Three other thresholds in the same rules land inside this table:

  • Above 25 kW, the facility needs NEPRA concurrence. At or below 25 kW the DISCO approves it directly.
  • At 250 kW and above, regulation 3(3) requires a load flow study, carried out through the DISCO or a consultant registered with the Pakistan Engineering Council. Budget the time for it.
  • At every size, regulation 3(2) says capacity shall not exceed your sanctioned load. For a factory this is usually the real limit, so check the sanctioned load on your bill before designing anything. Our guide to DG capacity and sanctioned load explains how to read it.

Inverters must also comply with the UL 1741 standard under regulation 9(5), which rules out a good deal of the cheapest equipment on the market.

Is a BESS worth it under net billing?

Since 9 February 2026, under net billing, an exported unit earns only the national average energy purchase price, about Rs 11, while a unit you use yourself saves your full tariff. That gap is the whole business case for storage. Without a battery, solar generated at midday when the factory is quiet gets exported for Rs 11. With one, it is held and used in the evening or during load shedding, where it displaces a unit at your full commercial tariff, several times the export rate.

A battery also replaces something most Pakistani businesses already pay for: diesel. A generator covering a load-shedding window burns fuel every hour it runs. Storage charged from your own roof does the same job with no fuel cost, no noise and no maintenance visit every few hundred hours. For many sites that, rather than the tariff, is the strongest argument.

BESS for commercial and industrial sites

A BESS is a commercial and industrial product. It starts at around 50 kW, and it is designed and priced as one complete system. Our largest solar systems are a 375 kW system on Raiwind Road and a 300 kW system in the Quaid-e-Azam Industrial Estate, and that industrial-scale work is what a BESS builds on. Our commercial and industrial teams quote every BESS individually, against your load profile and your sanctioned load.

Home and small commercial batteries, such as a 16 kWh unit, are a separate product with separate prices, and we keep them on separate pages: see our HiSEL battery prices and lithium battery prices. Do not compare the two.

BESS price in Pakistan: frequently asked questions

What does a BESS cost in Pakistan in 2026?

A complete 50 kW hybrid solar system with 100 kWh of lithium storage costs approx Rs 200 per watt installed, about Rs 1 crore. Per watt the price falls with size, to roughly Rs 152 to 166 per watt for a 1 MW system with 2 MWh of storage, because panels, inverters and installation get cheaper at scale while batteries only fall a little.

How much does a 1 MW solar system with battery cost?

With 2 MWh of storage, about two hours at full power, approx Rs 15.2 to 16.6 crore installed. With less storage it costs considerably less. 1 MW is also the largest facility allowed under the 2026 net billing rules.

Is a BESS priced like a home battery?

No. A BESS starts at around 50 kW and is priced as a complete commercial or industrial system. Home and small commercial batteries, such as a 16 kWh unit, are a different product with their own prices, so one tells you nothing about the other. Within a BESS, compare quotations on the number of kWh first, because storage size drives the price.

Do I need NEPRA approval for a commercial BESS?

Above 25 kW the facility needs NEPRA concurrence; at or below 25 kW the DISCO approves it directly. At 250 kW and above a load flow study is also required. At every size the capacity must not exceed your sanctioned load.

Is battery storage worth it for a factory?

Usually, for two reasons. Under net billing an exported unit earns about Rs 11, while a stored unit used on site saves your full tariff. And storage replaces diesel generator running costs during load shedding. Size the battery to the hours you actually need to cover rather than the whole night.

Which battery chemistry should a commercial BESS use?

Lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) is the standard for stationary storage in Pakistan, because it tolerates heat better and lasts more cycles than other lithium chemistries. Insist on a proper battery management system and a manufacturer warranty stated in cycles as well as years.

BESS: Roman Urdu mein aam sawalat

BESS ki qeemat kitni hai?

50 kW hybrid solar system 100 kWh lithium battery ke sath taqreeban Rs 200 per watt parta hai, yani taqreeban Rs 1 crore, mukammal installation ke sath. System jitna bara ho, per watt utna sasta hota hai. 1 MW system 2 MWh battery ke sath taqreeban Rs 15.2 se 16.6 crore.

Kya BESS aur ghar ki battery ki qeemat ek jaisi hai?

Nahin. BESS taqreeban 50 kW se shuru hota hai aur commercial ya industrial system ke tor par mukammal qeemat par milta hai. 16 kWh jaisi ghar ya chhoti commercial battery alag cheez hai aur us ki qeemat alag hai, is liye dono ka muqabla na karein. BESS ki quotations mein pehle kWh barabar dekhein.

Kya NEPRA ki manzoori chahiye?

25 kW se upar NEPRA concurrence chahiye, 25 kW tak DISCO khud approve karti hai. 250 kW aur us se upar load flow study bhi zaroori hai. Aur system ki capacity aap ke bill par likhe sanctioned load se zyada nahin ho sakti.
