The short version

A lithium battery in Lahore does two jobs: it keeps the house running through load-shedding, and under net billing it lets you use your own solar in the evening instead of exporting it. For connections under net billing, which applies to applications after 9 February 2026, an exported unit earns about Rs 11 while a unit you use yourself saves roughly Rs 55 to 65 at today’s tariffs, so storage changed from a comfort to an economic decision. Older net-metering agreements still settle at their own, higher rate. The install itself is the part people get wrong: the battery must match your inverter’s voltage, sit somewhere cool and dry, and talk to the inverter over a BMS cable.

Where a lithium battery is installed in a Lahore house

The lithium batteries we install in Lahore are LiFePO4 lithium batteries, usually wall-mounted beside the hybrid inverter and the distribution board. That is not for looks. Keeping the battery, the inverter and the DC isolator within a short cable run reduces voltage drop and makes the system easier to service.

What we look for during a Lahore site survey:

  • Indoors, shaded and dry. A stairwell wall, a utility area or a covered service corridor works well. Every manufacturer specifies an operating temperature range, and an unventilated roof cabin in a Lahore June will sit well outside it. Heat is the main thing that shortens a lithium battery’s life in this climate.
  • Not in the open on the roof. Direct sun, dust and monsoon rain are the three things that age an outdoor installation fastest in this city.
  • Ventilation and clearance. Space around the unit for airflow, and enough room in front to open and service it.
  • A wall that can carry it. A 16 kWh wall unit is heavy. On a hollow or weak wall we use a floor stand instead of forcing a wall mount.
  • Away from bedrooms where possible. The inverter fan is audible at night.

The costliest installation mistake: battery voltage mismatch

A lithium battery only works with an inverter of the same battery voltage. A 12.8 V unit cannot pair with a 48 V or 51.2 V hybrid inverter, and no amount of wiring fixes it. This is the single most expensive error we are called to correct, usually after someone has bought a battery on price alone.

Before anything is ordered we check the inverter’s battery voltage, its maximum charge current, and whether it supports the battery’s BMS protocol. The BMS communication cable is what lets the inverter read the real state of charge and stop charging correctly; without it you are running the bank blind.

Can you add a lithium battery to an existing solar system?

It depends on the inverter you already have, and this is worth being blunt about:

  • If you have a hybrid inverter with a battery port at the right voltage, yes. This is a straightforward retrofit: mount, wire, configure, test.
  • If you have an on-grid inverter only, no. On-grid inverters have no battery port. You either add a separate hybrid inverter alongside it, which is how our DHA Phase 8 and Etihad Town systems are built, or replace it.

A battery does not generate power, so adding storage on its own does not increase your approved DG capacity or your sanctioned load. Get that confirmed in writing by your LESCO sub-division before you order, especially if you hold a pre-2026 net-metering agreement, because the terms of that agreement are strict about modifications. If you are also adding panels, that is a separate matter: read DG capacity and sanctioned load on your LESCO bill first, and if you hold a pre-2026 net-metering agreement, read what happens when you expand it before you order anything.

Sizing a battery for a Lahore home: evening units, not roof size

A battery is sized from what you use after sunset, not from your panel array. Work out the units you consume between sunset and sunrise, then allow for usable capacity. We size on about 85 percent depth of discharge, which is the working figure we use rather than a fixed rating, so a 10 kWh bank gives you roughly 8.5 kWh to spend.

In practice, Lahore homes we install for cluster like this, quoted as nominal battery capacity and based on our own experience rather than a published standard: a small house running fans, lights and a fridge overnight manages on 5 kWh; a family home that wants one air conditioner running for part of the night needs 10 kWh or more; a large house intending to run through a long outage with air conditioning is in 16 kWh territory and upwards. Our battery sizing guide works through the arithmetic, and the solar calculator turns your bill into a system size.

Lithium batteries we have installed in Lahore: DHA, Gulberg and Wapda Town

These are real systems, with the equipment actually fitted, across DHA, Gulberg and Wapda Town:

Area System Battery
Gulberg III 6 kW hybrid 16 kWh Hisel
DHA Phase 6 36 kW hybrid 2 × 16 kWh HiSEL (32 kWh)
DHA Phase 8 25 kW hybrid + on-grid 10 kWh lithium bank
Etihad Town 16 kW hybrid + on-grid 2 × 5 kWh Hisel
Barki 10 kW hybrid 2 × 5 kWh Dyness
Wapda Town 12 kW hybrid 2 × 5 kWh BYD (10 kWh)
Wapda Town 8 kW hybrid 5 kWh Dyness
Rooftop solar array on a home in DHA Phase 8, Lahore, where SNM Solutions paired an on-grid inverter with a hybrid inverter and a lithium battery bank
DHA Phase 8, Lahore: the rooftop array on the house where an on-grid inverter was paired with a hybrid inverter and a lithium bank.

Across these Lahore jobs we have fitted Hisel, Dyness and BYD lithium, chosen per project on inverter compatibility and what is genuinely in stock, not on whichever brand is being pushed that month.

What a proper lithium battery installation includes

Ask any installer to confirm these in writing before work starts. They are the difference between a battery that lasts and one that does not:

  • A DC isolator and correctly rated breaker between battery and inverter, so the bank can be isolated safely.
  • Correctly sized DC cable for the run, with proper lugs and torque, not twisted joints.
  • The BMS communication cable connected and the inverter set to the right battery profile.
  • Proper earthing, and labelling at the isolator so anyone working on the house later knows a battery is present.
  • A commissioning test: charge, discharge, and a deliberate grid-failure test so you see the changeover work.
  • Warranty terms in writing, naming who honours them inside Pakistan.

What it costs

Battery prices move with the exchange rate and stock, so we keep them on one page rather than repeating them here: see lithium battery prices in Pakistan and the Hisel battery price list. For how storage fits into a whole system, our Lahore system prices page has the full table, and on-grid vs hybrid sets out the decision in money terms.

Lithium battery installation in Lahore: frequently asked questions

How much does lithium battery installation cost in Lahore?

The installation labour is part of the system quote; what varies is the battery itself, which is priced by usable capacity and brand. Current figures are on our lithium battery price page, and we give a written quote after a free site survey.

Can I add a lithium battery to my existing solar system?

Yes if you already have a hybrid inverter with a battery port at the matching voltage. No if you only have an on-grid inverter, because those have no battery port; in that case we either add a hybrid inverter alongside it or replace it.

Where should the battery be installed in the house?

Indoors, shaded, dry and ventilated, close to the inverter, on a wall that can carry the weight or on a floor stand. Not in direct sun and not in an unventilated roof cabin, because heat is what shortens battery life in Lahore.

Which lithium battery brands does SNM install in Lahore?

Hisel, Dyness and BYD, selected per project on inverter compatibility and stock. Our Lahore installations include 16 kWh Hisel in Gulberg III, 32 kWh of HiSEL in DHA Phase 6, Dyness banks in Barki and Wapda Town, and BYD in Wapda Town.

Does adding a battery need LESCO approval?

A battery does not generate power, so storage on its own does not increase your approved DG capacity or sanctioned load. We still recommend getting that confirmed in writing by your sub-division first. If you are adding panels at the same time, that does involve LESCO, and a pre-2026 net-metering agreement needs care before any expansion.

How long does the installation take?

A battery retrofit onto a suitable hybrid inverter is usually a single day, including commissioning tests. A full solar system with storage takes two to four days on site.

Lithium battery installation: Roman Urdu mein aam sawalat

Lithium battery ghar mein kahan lagwani chahiye?

Andar, saaye mein, sookhi aur hawadar jagah par, inverter ke qareeb. Chhat par khuli dhoop mein ya band garam kamre mein nahin, kyunke Lahore ki garmi battery ki umar kam karti hai.

Kya purane solar system mein battery lag sakti hai?

Agar aap ke paas hybrid inverter hai to haan. Sirf on-grid inverter hai to nahin, kyunke us mein battery ka port hi nahin hota; us surat mein alag hybrid inverter lagana parta hai.

Battery ka voltage kyun ahem hai?

12.8 V ki battery 48 V ya 51.2 V ke hybrid inverter ke saath kaam nahin karti. Ye sab se mehnga masla hai jo hum theek karne jate hain, is liye order se pehle inverter ka voltage check karna zaroori hai.
